Get Rid of Credit Card Debt Now

Filed Under Credit Cards | Leave a Comment

There is no doubt that all those TV ads touting the power of the credit card make it far too tempting for too many people to resist the urge to simply say ‘charge it’.  Sadly, within a society that has been conditioned to believe they can have it now, far too many people are more interested in accumulating ‘things’ than getting rid of credit card debt. Unfortunately this is not healthy, because it leads to excessive amounts of debt over a number of years. If you have an excessive amount of credit card debt, and cannot afford to pay the cards off any time soon, now is the time for you to seek how to eliminate credit card debt before it is too late.

Now that you are willing to admit you have a problem, you now need to make a real effort to remedy the financial situation you find yourself in. It is not impossible to get rid of credit card debt, but it will take some real effort on your part. Now is the time to start thinking about the future and save some money in the process by seeking help with credit card debt. The first step in getting rid of credit card debt is to find out how to eliminate credit card debt.

To begin with, take a look at how many credit cards you possess.  What is your current annual percentage rate on each card? Now, calculate how much you pay out each month on each card.  It may not be as much fun figuring this out as it was when you ran up the credit card debt, but it is necessary in order for you to get rid of the credit card debt.

Add up the total you pay out monthly on your credit card bills, in addition to the money you lose to interest each month. This is necessary to give you a wake up call, but it is for your own good. You need to face this reality so it can help you get rid of credit card debt. As a matter of fact, if you can pay off any of the credit cards immediately, go ahead and do so. This will save you some money that is lost to interest each month.

Now ask yourself, what are you using your credit cards for each month?  Hopefully the answer is not that you are paying bills with them; unfortunately, this can happen if a job is lost and the bills become too overwhelming. If you must do this, choose the one with the lowest APR, so that you are paying out less money in interest each month. Your goal is to pay as much money toward each credit card that you can possibly afford each month. To do this, you will need to stop using your credit cards for purchases if at all possible.

It does not matter if the minimum payment is only $258. If you owe thousands on it, make a $500 payment each month or even $1000 if you can. This will eliminate the credit card debt more quickly. The sooner you can get rid of your credit card debt the better!  With no credit card bills, you can save that money every month and begin to pay cash for your purchases.

It can’t be stated enough; if you really want to get rid of credit card debt, you need to stop all that impulse buying. Even though material items are fulfilling, they are only temporary highs. People buy stuff to fill all kinds of voids, but it never lasts. This is why they continue to purchase more and more stuff.  It actually is an addiction that needs a cure, and that cure is learning how eliminate credit card debt, not accumulate more!

Stop and ask yourself, how much stuff do I actually need? Also, would you rather have a maxed out credit card with a high interest rate or get rid of credit card debt for good? The answer should be pretty plain and simple.  To begin getting rid of credit card debt by seeking help with credit card debt is the first step on the path of how to eliminate credit card debt forever!
